Garden Party - part II

You may remember from my previous posting that we decided to start a garden this year for our porch. We recycled M and D's pool from last summer, which had been rendered useless for swimming again this summer. We drilled several drainage holes into the side of the pool, about 2 inches from the ground, to allow it to drain properly when it rains. We also planted a few things in some old buckets, which also have the drainage holes in the side. Then, we added dirt from the barn, as well as some compost that we started 2 years ago. The plants seem to be thriving and though the garden is small, I think it will provide a lot of extra veggies for us to feast on this summer. Yummy!

Driving skills

Sometimes I have a hard time trying to keep the boys safely entertained while I'm feeding the animals out at the barn. Declan has become particularly challenging as he is on the cusp of crawling, and is constantly frustrated by not being mobile when he thinks he should be. So, putting him in the swing or even carrying him in his backpack placates him for minutes only... then he's ready for the next activity! Madigan has stepped up to the plate and offered a wonderful solution these past several days, much to all of our delight! He pushes Declan in his stroller all over the field. He pushes the basket at the base of the stroller, since he's too small to reach the handle and he steers by grabbing whichever wheel he needs to go in the desired direction. Such a clever method, really, and he came up with it all by himself! And - being the ever-attentive big brother that he is - whenever Declan starts to fuss, Madigan immediately stops the stroller, and rushes around to make sure D has his bottle of water, cracker and/or toy. Once the little brother is adequately satisfied, the vehicle is back in motion. I love watching those little brothers interact... they love each other so much!

And the verdict is...

It's a boy! We went for our 19 week ultrasound yesterday and discovered (not totally to my surprise, I must admit) that baby #3 is boy #3 for this household! Madigan was excited, though I don't think he really comprehends it all very much yet. He does seem to know that "baby" is inside Mommy and now we'll be able to talk about "baby brother" rather than "it". :-)

Everything looked great in the ultrasound and the sonographer kept saying, "Oh this guy is fun!" He was bouncing all over and showing off his moves, much to our delight. He has 10 fingers, 10 toes and all the other important things he needs to have to start this life with roar. That is a huge answer to my prayers!
